Law Internship Options

1. Summer: A 150 hour summer internship with class time each week in June with Mr. Daniel.  This internship earns you 3 college credits via dual enrollment with Valencia Community College.  This position may be paid or unpaid.  You must find your own placement.

2. Summer: A 150 hour summer internship with one hour class time each week with Mr. Daniel.  This earns ½ high school credit.  Likewise this can be paid or unpaid.  You must find your own placement.

3. Summer: 150 hours over the summer, without the supervision of Mr. Daniel.  This will not result in either college credit or high school credit.  You will be doing the same hours in a law firm as those interning with Mr. Daniel, the only difference is you will have fewer documents to file and less paperwork, yet you won’t end up with the college or high school credit.  This can be paid or unpaid.  If unpaid you can use these hours as community service for college applications etc.  If this is paid you obviously cannot use these hours as community service.

4. Prior to summer:  job shadow a law professional on four separate, full 8 hour workdays.  You may shadow the same law professional on four occasions, or shadow four different people, one for each day.  You must make the necessary arrangements.
  1. These days must be during teacher workdays or on holidays; they will not be accepted if you do the hours during a school day.  Do not miss school for the internship.  That is not the intent of the program and will not be tolerated.
  2. No college or high school credit will be earned, but these 32 hours will satisfy the magnet’s requirement for an internship.
  3. A packet of job shadow/internship assignments will be completed and submitted by April 27, 2007.  This packet requires paperwork created by you and paperwork created by the supervising attorney.
5. Prior to summer:  Another option for completing the internship without needing to do the summer hours, or without doing the 4 full days, is the HIP program with the clerk’s office.   This is a weekly obligation, and might result in more hours than the 32 hours.  The hours will be primarily during the third nine weeks and may roll into the fourth nine weeks.  See Ms. Schmidt ASAP if you are interested.  Only a few positions are available; there will be interviews and screening.
