P.A.S.S. POSITIVE AFTER SCHOOL STUDENT PROGRAM
                                       
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 2:30 - 4:30
Wednesday 1:30-3:30                                      

The P.A.S.S. Program is an innovative disciplinary approach to in-school and out-of-school suspension. A suspended student will be assigned to the Positive After School (PASS) Program for a minimum of three days. Classroom teachers will provide the assignments to be completed during this time. Positive social/academic skill training will be provided by school personnel and community volunteers.

Students that have been assigned to the P.A.S.S. Program will be excluded from participation in all school activities, including but not limited to, athletic events, band activities, academic challenges and cooperative work experiences. Failure to attend the P.A.S.S. Program without permission or is dismissed from the P.A.S.S. Program for failure to follow rules, will be suspended off-campus not to exceed ten (10) days.

ORGANIZATIONS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL (SAC)
The SAC is an organization comprised of parents, students, teachers, community leaders, and administrators. The focus of the SAC is to work with the principal and to write the school improvement plan. Anyone interested in serving on the SAC should contact Mrs. Harris at extension 7201.

PARENT, TEACHER, STUDENT ASSOCIATION (P.T.S.A)
Boone's P.T.S.A. is a joint effort of the parents, teachers, and students to improve community understand, and to help the school in various endeavors. All parents, teachers, and students are encouraged to join. The group meets monthly and sponsors such activities as the annual Open House.

FOUNDATION
The Boone Foundation is an organization comprised of parents whose main purpose is to raise money for the advancement of Boone High School. For further information regarding the Foundation, please call 407-893-7201.

BOOSTERS
The Boone Boosters are parents who help support various organizations, such as band, athletics, and clubs, through worthwhile projects and activities. All interested parents are invited to join.

GENERAL INFORMATION

CAFETERIA
Students are expected to be courteous and considerate when in the cafeteria complex. Since enough time is allotted for lunch, it is not necessary to run or push to get in the lunch lines. Skipping of lunch lines will not be tolerated. The following are expectations of students in the cafeteria:

  • Be considerate of the cafeteria workers and the dining room property.
  • Be considerate of students who eat later; leave the table clean, put books and gym shoes on the floor, talk in low tones, exhibit good table manners.
  • Eat lunches in the school cafeterias or provided dining areas. Eating in classrooms, corridors, or in automobiles is not allowed.

VENDING MACHINES
Boone High School assumes no responsibility for the lost monies or damaged goods received from machines.

FUND-RAISING
All fund raisers MUST be screened and scheduled by the Student Government PRIOR to approval by the assistant principal. All fund raisers MUST be approved PRIOR to any commitment by any teacher. Specific procedures must be followed. All purchases with school funds must be authorized by Mr. Bernier before making the purchase. Purchase order forms are available in the teachers workroom and in the Bookkeepers Office. All money from fund raisers should be deposited daily with the bookkeeper.

ATHLETICS
Boone High School is a member of the Orange County Public Schools Metro Conference. The schedule of athletic contests will include competition with members of the Metro as well as other conferences. The Athletic Director is Mr. Doug Patterson.

LOCKERS
Students are responsible for providing their own locks. They must register their locker number and combination in the main office. Failure to register a locker will result in the lock being cut off.

OBLIGATIONS
All students with financial obligations are expected to satisfy the obligations at the end of each grading term. This is done with Ms. Robertson in the Main Office.

PARKING ON CAMPUS
Student parking at Boone is very challenging due to the limited number of parking spaces on campus. In order to equitable meet the needs of the most number of students, parking decals will be issued once during the 2005-2006 school year. Decals will be issued on a first come first serve basis to (1) Seniors and (2) Juniors. Decals will be issued during preplanning, at new student orientation, and on Wednesdays during lunch in Room 229. At the time of parking registration students must have with them the following:

  • Car registration
  • Driver's License
  • 2005 Schedule indicating student is a senior or has OJT
  • $40 fee (cash ONLY)
  • Bring a slip from main office verifying all financial obligations have been cleared.
  • Proof of insurance

In order to ensure the safety of all students, cars parked on campus without appropriate parking decals will be issued two warnings, then towed at the owner's expense.

NOTE:
  • Boone High School and the School Board of Orange County are not liable for any vandalism to, or theft of or from vehicles parked on this property.
  • Parking off campus is controlled by Orlando Police Department or Sheriff's Department.
  • PASSES
    Students must have passes whenever they are outside the classroom during class time. Passes must show the time, destination, and teacher signature. Students are expected to go to that destination only with no stops along the way. Passes will be issued for only very necessary or emergency reasons.

    TELEPHONES
    Students should not use the office phones for personal phone calls except in an emergency and with staff permission. In the event a student receives a call, he/she will be called out of class ONLY in the case of an emergency.

    DRESS CODE

    School Board policy stipulates that school clothing shall be neat, clean and in good taste when students are in school. Students should be dressed for school, not the beach or a party. To ensure the safety of all students, the Board also requires all students to have school name badge available upon request.

    The dress codes will be enforced to ensure a school climate which is most conducive to educating and to learning. The guidelines for determining what is appropriate for school are simple. If the clothing is too short, tight, ragged, revealing, controversial, or unsafe, it will be deemed inappropriate for school. The administration reserves the right to modify this list as fashion trends may dictate.

    Students must:

    • have school name badge available upon request
    • wear shoes
    • wear undergarments
    • wear tops/blouses that:
      have at least four finger straps over the shoulders
      are not transparent, mesh, or other type of revealing fabric
      completely cover the stomach
    • wear shirts that:
      completely cover the stomach
      do not display inappropriate pictures, words or phrases
      are not transparent, mesh or other type of revealing fabric
    • wear shorts, slacks, jeans that:
      are of modest length - mid thigh or below
      are not considered bathing suits
      are free of holes and ragged ends
    • dress length:
      must be of modest length - mid thigh or below
    NOTE
  • hats, visors, bandanas, sun glasses and goggles are prohibited
  • chains over 12" long are prohibited
  • DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS
    Students violating the dress code will suffer the following consequences outlined in the student code of conduct.

    First Offense
  • referral, warning, parent contact, appropriate dress required before returning to class

  • Second Offense
  • referral, detention, parent contact, appropriate dress required before returning to class
  • warned to level 3 if repeated offense

  • Third Offense
  • referral, PASS Program, parent contact, appropriate dress required before returning to class

  • Fourth Offense
  • suspension for gross insubordination
  • ATTENDANCE

    HABITUAL TRUANT
    A student between the ages of 6 and 18 who has 15 or more unexcused absences will be considered a habitual truant. Days of suspension are not included in the number of absences when determining habitual truancy. Whenever a student attains 15 days of unexcused absences, the student will be reported to the Department of Family and Services.

    LONG TERM ILLNESS
    When a student is repeatedly absent from school, the school is authorized to require the parent/guardian to provide a written physician's statement for the subsequent absences to be considered excused.

    MISSING ASSIGNMENTS
    Students will be given a reasonable amount of time to make up any work assignments that were missed during the absence, the same number of days plus one.

    APPOINTMENTS
    Students who need to leave school early must sign out in the attendance office. parents must be contacted before a student will be permitted to leave campus. Students returning to school after an appointment must report to the attendance office with a signed doctor, dentist, or court appointment note. Only the parent, guardian or designee with a notarized document signed by the parents, will be allowed to take a student out of school.

    PARENT RESPONSIBILITY
    Encourage student to be in school. Whenever possible, make appointments for students outside the school day. Notify the guidance office of change in home address and/or telephone number. Ensure student conduct is appropriate to maximize learning environment.

    SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITY
    The school staff will make a responsible effort to contact parents by telephone if their student is out of school or failing. Progress reports or report cards are issued approximately every four and a half weeks reflecting grades, conduct, and attendance. Staff will mail letters or call home when a student has reached five (5) absences in a session.
