Welcome to the
Boone High School
Counseling Department

Professional school counselors are certified and licensed counselors trained in school counseling, possessing the unique qualifications and skills to address all students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs. They have a master’s degree or higher in school counseling, uphold the ethical and professional standards of professional counseling associations, and play a vital role in maximizing student achievement.

Professional school counselors incorporate leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for all students. Collaborating with other stakeholders to promote student achievement, professional school counselors address the needs of all students through prevention and intervention programs that are a part of a comprehensive school counseling program. Tips to be successful in high school:

  • Use the student planner daily.
  • Set a special time and place for homework, reviewing daily work and studying every night
  • Pick up weekly progress reports on Thursday mornings (before school) in the Counseling office to monitor how you are doing.
  • Visit the K-12 Planet website frequently (Login and password information goes home to all 9th grade parents early October.)
  • Get involved-students with an interest in an activity or sport tend to be the most successful.

Set up an individual appointment:
Students may make an appointment to meet with their counselor by coming to the lobby before school, after school, or during lunch. Any clerk will be happy to schedule these appointments. Seniors should meet with their counselor at least once a month; other students, at least once a term.

Schedule a Parent Conference:
Parents may request a conference with their son or daughter and all teachers by contacting the assigned counselor directly at the extensions listed or through email.

Review student standing through weekly progress reports or the online program K-12 Planet.

Watch for Progress Reports and Report Cards-you should see one every
4½-5 weeks.
