Every test is vital to a student's future in regards to assessment and opportunity. Passing the FCAT 10 is required for graduation in the state of Florida. See your counselor and check the information in the guidance office for information on these tests.
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test: FCAT 9
This assessment is given to all Florida students beginning in grade school. The ninth grade version mirrors the reading and math portion of the exam given in grade 10. Scores will help the school identify students who might benefit from academic interventions. High scores may enable a student to earn a future scholarship.
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test: FCAT 10
Each FCAT assessment measures progress in reading, writing, and math. Testing begins in February and concludes in March. A passing score is a state graduation requirement.
Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test: FCAT 11
This is the third year that FCAT Science will be administered to juniors. The exam is still being piloted, but will be a graduation requirement for the graduating class of 2008.
Degress of Reading Power Test: DRP 9 and 10
This exam is a holistic measure of how well students understand the meaning of written text. Test results are reported on a readability scale. The same scale is used to measure the difficulty of reading material. These tests are criterion referenced and allow precise tracking of a student's reading development. This information allows teachers to locate, assign, or recommend appropriate reading materials that match student ability.
Advanced Placement: AP Tests
AP exams are given at the completion of an advanced placement course. Exams are administered in May and the results are mailed to the home, high school, and specified colleges. Most colleges grant credit for a certain scroe on AP exams, but the student should verify each university's policy.
American College Test: ACT
The ACT is America's most widely accepted college entrance exam. It assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery: ASVAB
This exam is an optional test measuring skills with a variety of short, timed multiple choice test items. It is administered to juniors and seniors in the fall. The test can identify occupations and skills for which students are best suited. There is no commitment to military service for students taking this test.
College Placement Test: CPT
The CPT is the test that Florida community colleges use to determine placement in either remedial or regular college courses. The test was designed to measure how well students have developed their verbal and math skills.
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test: PSAT/NMSQT
The PSAT is multiple-choice exam that measurs verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities. Its also used as a predictor for possible SAT scores and potential success in AP courses. The scores help students focus on areas for practice prior to sitting for the SAT. The test is given once a year in October and results can qualify students for the National Merit, National Achievement or National Hispanic Scholarship Awards.
Scholastic Aptitude Test: SAT I

Scholastic Aptitude Test: SAT II
SAT II is a series of one hour exams designed to measure a student's level of achievement in a particular subject. They are given in academic subjects including english, science, math, and foreign languages. Students should consult specific colleges to find out whether these exams are required and which test date is preferred. The tests are given on the same date as SAT I but cannot be taken on the same day. Results are mailed to the same locations as the SAT I.
